How to Make Shirred Eggs

Hello my lovelies, today is the day when you learn how to jazz up your breakfast eggs. Are you tired of eating the same boiled egg for breakfast every day? Yes? Well, then all you need is some eggs, veggies and butter.

WHAT IS SHIRRED EGGS?

Shirred eggs are basically eggs baked in butter. They are usually baked in a flat bottom dish like a ramekin. You can also add vegetables and any protein you like in it.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Ingredients
  • Eggs
  • Mushrooms
  • Capsicum
  • Butter
  • Salt and Pepper

METHOD

Preheat the oven to 160*c and grease two oven safe dishes with butter.

Prepare your vegetables by slicing the mushrooms and dicing the capsicum into small cubes.

Melt the butter

In a frying pan add some butter and melt it on medium heat. Make sure not to add the butter when the pan is very hot otherwise its going to sizzle and burn (speaking from personal experience). You can brown the butter by melting it and heating it for a while until it turns slightly golden.

Saute the vegetables

After you’ve done that add your vegetables and saute them. Season them with salt and pepper. Cook them until the mushrooms have browned and set them aside.

Crack an egg on top of the veg mix

Divide the vegetable mixture in the dishes equally and break an egg on top of each of them. Season them with salt and pepper.

Bake them for 10 minutes until the egg whites have set and then serve immediately in the dishes.
